The Publishing House "GVARDS" has published book Yury Melkonov "The Riga"BOSTON"in English. Book was pablished in Riga in 2010.
This is a story of a Soviet bomber, an A-20 “Boston”, which was found at the bottom of the Gulf of Riga in June, 2008.

It has been considered that during the World War I and II more then 80000 sea mines were laid in the Baltic Sea. According to the German data approximately 150000 explosive subjects can be found today at the sea-bed, including mines, torpedoes, depth and aviation bombs, naval and costal artillery shells, sunken warships, aircrafts and sea transports loaded with ammunition.

The award has handed the President of International Society of name Franz Kafka, the professor, academician Miroslav Klivar.

Every year on November, 10 in Bolderaja, Naval forces of Latvia spend the solemn ceremony devoted to memory of the British and French seamen, lost in 1918 in Riga. Then in 1918 in Gulf of Riga there was a squadron of the British ships in structure of cruiser HMS "Dragon", 8 torpedo ships and 2 torpedo boats. From the French side there were 2 torpedo boats and two gunboats.

On August, 26 the press-service of the Ministry of Defense of Latvia has invited journalists of leading Latvian mass-media to visit military base of the Latvian national armed forces in Adazhi. Media Days became already traditional and is carried out by military department every year. This time organizers of action have tried to carry out in conditions "as much as possible approached to fighting".

It is possible to look long time on old concrete and to pick a foot rusty bolts, being distressed thus, that local authorities do not protect monument of history. But it is possible to take a shovel in hands and to clear the basis of the gun, constructed 60 years ago by hands of sailors and to understand something such that forces us to operate. We also are local authorities, it is our history, to us her to protect.

New, 2005 began on Baltic is disturbing. On January, 1 the captain of the tanker " Rostov Velikij " (the Russian Flag), being in 11 miles from an entrance in the Riga port, has requested consultation of the medical center of accidents on rendering assistance to the seaman who has received a heavy trauma. In the sea the patrol ship of Latvian Coast Guard KA-09 "KLINTS" which in conditions of a storm has taken off the victim from the tanker has left and delivered him in Vecmilgravis.

The biggest circle of sector of bombardment has the center small point on map - Island Oro. Here in 1916 has entered build the battery №60 consisting from four 305/52 open artillery systems. How there was destiny of guns of the battery of Oro?

Through small tambour we enter inside, the ladder leaves downwards, smells as machines oil, dry warm air goes from below from vaults. All is clean and accurate, fresh paint, brand new pipes of ventilation. We are at the basis of tower. On trays two huge shells are prepared. Powder cartridges, in canvas environments, have settled down on directing with copper runners.

Trip to Finland became ripe already for long time. The more you study history of coastal artillery; would be more desirable to visit on the Finnish coast. On all the East Baltic on coast did not remain any gun, only concrete on cannon court yard, yes black bolts make the way through grass. In Finland guns of all times and epoch were kept.

For the port town danger always came from sea. Coastal defense of Riga was under construction for centuries. Fortress Daugavgriva, Riga Citadel, forts Bolderaya and batteries Mangalsala - all this built German, Swedish and Russian military builders on coast of Daugava to protect the trading City Riga from an attack from the sea.

At the end of summer 1915 the Riga railway station Aleksander Gate has been hammered by structures, people and equipment. Steam elevating cranes transferred on platforms machine tools, machines and factory equipment. Separately loaded heavy circles of metal and cakes of red copper - the mobilization stock of materials. Strict military sentry accepted an echelon, soldiers in long overcoats, with three-linear rifles, borrowed places on platforms and on carload platforms.

Diesel engines for Moonzund turrets batteries in 1940 " Engine of revolution " has put plant from City Gorkij. The diesel plant on coast of Volga, in Nizhni Novgorod, has appeared in 1915. It was evacuated from Riga machine-building and iron-works plant "Felzer and Co ".

Go on Saaremaa it would be desirable for long time. All the same, our family lived on island three years in 1956-58, there I went to school, in the first class. More than 40 years I haven't been in Saaremaa, but memoirs have remained forever. During Soviet time it was difficult to get on island. The strict frontier regime closed Saaremaa for tourists.

We have left port Dirhami in the morning. On the eve with alarm looked at the sky pending good weather. The wind rushes reached up to 12m/sec. 10 kilometres passage between island and continent was covered with 2-meter waves, but the boat has overcome that distance for 30 minutes.There is the convenient bay in a southern part of island; there was a wooden pier earlier, but it has been broken by storms.

We decided not to wait till all the headings listed are finished and revealed the website as it is now.
Currently it is not completed yet, but the work on the website is going under a full head of stream. In the nearest future" Kursk - Latvia" and "Ransome in the Baltic" begins to operate. Later on, because of huge information volume, the headings "Coastal artillery" will be accessible.
