Hi - I've just found out that a cousin of mine was on the Virsaitis in the 30s. His name was Janis Gutmanis, and he was also my father's godfather. My aunt says he was a "Naval Captain", but I'm not sure if he was actually the captain of the Virsaitis. I have looked at the photos in your gallery of the 85th Anniversary of the Latvian Navy and was excited to see the ship, until my hsuband pointed out that it looked quite modern and was probably not the original. Can you possibly tell me any history of the ships? Anything you might be able to tell me would be appreciated.
